Happy Last Friday of Summer Vacation! Enjoy the weekend.
To get the year started, we have welcomed our new teachers to Cumberland at Thursday’s New Teacher Orientation and provided ALICE Training (School Safety Training) to all staff who have not previously been trained. Monday, we welcome back all staff at Staff Orientation and will be welcoming students back starting Wednesday. The first day for Grades 1-9 is Wednesday, August 26th with No Early Release, and Grades PK-12 are back on Thursday, August 27th.
Garvin Principal Update
We are excited to announce the appointment of the new Garvin Principal! Christopher Leblanc comes to us from the Foster-Glocester Regional School District, where he served as an assistant principal. Mr. Leblanc is a high-energy leader with Special Education experience and will be a great fit for the diverse needs of Garvin Memorial School. Please join me in welcoming Christopher Leblanc to Cumberland as our newest Building administrator at Garvin Memorial School.
BCI Requirement for All School Volunteers
The district requires that all volunteers complete a background check each year before being considered for volunteer opportunities. BCI applications will only be accepted and processed during the following times:
September 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026 and February 1, 2027 – February 26, 2027. Please print the application double-sided, bring an original ID, and $5.00 to your child’s school. Reach out to your student’s school secretary with any questions.
Opt-In Transportation: New for 2026
If you have not already done so, and your student is eligible for Transportation, please take a moment to complete the Cumberland School Department Transportation Registration Form 2026-2027. A separate form must be submitted for each student you are registering. The 2026-2027 school year will be a trial year before it goes live in the 2027-2028 school year. Ridership verification will take place 3 times per school year. Attendance will be collected for 2 consecutive weeks. Any student who has not ridden during these 2 weeks will be flagged. Any flagged student’s family will receive an automated call and email. Families will have 3 school days to confirm that transportation is still needed. If there is no response, the student will be removed from the route. If at any time families would like their student returned to the route, parents will need to submit a request to the transportation department. Students will be routed in approximately 3-5 school days. Please note, the walking distances per the E-2 Transportation Policy still apply for the opt-in process. If you opt your student in and your home address falls within the policy guidelines, your student will not be routed. Bus numbers will be added to the Aspen Transportation tab on Tuesday, Bus Routes.
