“Our Mission at B.F. Norton is to recognize and respect the dignity
and diversity of all students in order to foster a safe learning
environment, focused on student performance and the process of
continuous school improvement.  Students, parents, staff and the
community will be active partners in this Mission.”

BF Norton Elementary School is a Kindergarten through 5th grade school located in the southern part of Cumberland, Rhode Island.  The mission of BF Norton is to recognize and respect the diversity of all students in order to foster a safe learning environment, focused on student performance and continuous school improvement.  Our team of teachers and staff members are dedicated to providing a high quality education that focuses on the students academic needs, as well as their social emotional learning needs.

As in any school, BF Norton has its share of challenges.  We have many students who come into the district or move to another district throughout the year, thereby creating a high mobility rate.  We don’t let this impact our students, we consistently step up to the challenge! Our staff works hard to help ensure all students, new or old, can access learning and be successful.  We have a high population of English Learners (EL) and are fortunate to have certified EL teachers at every grade level to support their needs. Our Title I status provides us with valuable resources including three full time Reading Specialist to help us close the literacy gap.

BF Norton Elementary is building the foundation for a community of diverse learners. We will continue to provide a safe learning environment that responds to the needs of the whole child, one that supports academic and social emotional needs. We will continue to set high expectations, and follow through with positive interactions with all students.  We will continue to strive to create learning experiences to ensure our students excel now and in the future.
