Dear Students, Staff, and Families,
I know that these are difficult times. I hope everyone is doing well. There is movement on the delivery of the vaccine. Hopefully, we will start to see the light at the end of the tunnel as more people are vaccinated.
Listed below are a number of items for your review:
- As I mentioned at last night’s School Committee meeting, our administrative team is planning to bring students back for more in-person learning. No definite timeline has been set as of yet. We will be sure to provide time for everyone to plan accordingly.
- The safety of our students and staff will guide our decision making.
- The School Committee and I have received a number of specific questions related to bringing students back for more in-person learning. If you have school specific questions, please contact your child’s principal directly. They will be able to answer your questions.
- There are a number of challenges that will need to be addressed before we bring students back. Please be patient as we do our best to get them resolved as quickly as possible. Each of our schools will be conducting forums before students return for more in-person learning to answer any questions that you may have.
- Cumberland, as permitted by the RIDOH, has elected to maintain the preferred 14 day travel quarantine for anyone returning from international travel or travel to a state with a higher than 5% positivity rate (RI DOH State Listing). We do not provide a “test out” option for our students and staff.
- The search for a new Superintendent has begun. Our Human Resource Director, Katherine Duncanson is leading this process, Focus groups involving interested students, staff, parents, and community members are being created. - The updated COVID-19 spreadsheet is provided for your review.
- There is support for moving educators up on the vaccination schedule. Commissioner Infante-Green, Lieutenant Governor McKee, and the Superintendents Association are advocating to get educators vaccinated sooner rather than later.
- The vaccination process will require a great deal of coordination between the State, Department of Health, Town Government, and the School Department. Meetings have taken place to begin the planning process and more are scheduled as the vaccine becomes more available.

Estimados estudiantes, personal y familias:
Sé que son tiempos difíciles. Espero que todos lo estén haciendo bien. Hay un movimiento en la entrega de la vacuna. Con suerte, comenzaremos a ver la luz al final del túnel a medida que se vacunen más personas.
A continuación se enumeran varios elementos para su revisión:

- El Comité Escolar y yo hemos recibido una serie de preguntas específicas relacionadas con traer a los estudiantes de regreso para un aprendizaje más en persona. Si tiene preguntas específicas de la escuela, comuníquese directamente con el director de su hijo. Ellos podrán responder a sus preguntas.
- Hay una serie de desafíos que deberán abordarse antes de traer a los estudiantes de regreso. Tenga paciencia ya que hacemos todo lo posible para resolverlos lo más rápido posible. Cada una de nuestras escuelas llevará a cabo foros antes de que los estudiantes regresen para más aprendizaje en persona para responder cualquier pregunta que pueda tener.

- El actualizado Hoja de cálculo COVID-19 se proporciona para su revisión.
- Existe apoyo para hacer avanzar a los educadores en el calendario de vacunación. El comisionado Infante-Green, el vicegobernador McKee y la Asociación de Superintendentes están abogando por que los educadores se vacunen más temprano que tarde.
- El proceso de vacunación requerirá una gran coordinación entre el Estado, el Departamento de Salud, el Gobierno de la Ciudad y el Departamento Escolar. Se han realizado reuniones para comenzar el proceso de planificación y se programan más a medida que la vacuna esté más disponible.
