July 14, 2023
Dear Students, Staff and Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far.
I write to inform you that there have been some changes to the 2023-2024 School Calendar and the School Start/End Times Schedule. These changes were required based on Rhode Island Department of Education determinations on school calendars.
First, we have received approval from the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) to include required teacher training in reading, (Right to Read Days) in the number of instructional days. This means the student school year will be 178 days next year.
Given the total amount of instructional minutes in our schools exceeds the state minimum, we have also received approval from RIDE to allow for up to three (3) inclement weather days, which means we will not be required to make-up these days at the end of the school year.
The District will also no longer be able to conduct early release Wednesdays.
School hours will be the same Monday through Friday.
The Cumberland School Committee adopted these changes at its meeting on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
