Dear Students, Staff, and Families:
Before the start of the 2026–2027 school year, we are working full steam ahead with preparations to ensure a successful opening. With just over three weeks remaining in summer vacation, I want to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful rest of your break and share some important information as we get ready to welcome everyone back.
Back-to-School Events
Mark your calendars. All of our district schools have been busy planning back-to-school events. Please check your email for more detailed information from building principals.
RIPIN will also be hosting the Back-to-School Celebration Backpack Event on Saturday, August 15th, at Garvin School from 10 AM- 1 PM. All are welcome to attend this fun and informative event.
2026/2027 School Year
The School Committee has approved the 2026/2027 Start and End Times. The only change from last year is the addition of a program at the Cumberland Preschool Center. All other start/end times remain the same.
The 2026/2027 School Calendar has also been updated to reflect the RIDE-approved 5-day weather waiver. This approval means that the first 5 inclement weather closures, if needed, will not need to be made up.
Reminder- Transportation Opt In
Starting this August, we will be implementing an “Opt-In” model for school transportation. The 2026/2027 school year will be used for data collection and monitoring, as well as fine-tuning the process. Families will be asked to opt their child/children into busing if they are planning to utilize the service. The goal is to maximize the use of the fleet to capacity and for cost savings down the road, if possible. The walking distances in the E-2 Transportation Policy still apply. Further instructions to follow. Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
Philip D. Thornton, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
