Dear Students, Staff, and Families:
We are quickly approaching the first day of Spring, March 19th, and It is hard to believe that we are already starting to think about end-of-the-year activities and planning for the next school year. I want to take this opportunity to provide you with some updates and information.
Redistricting Plan
After months of deliberating on the redistricting plan for our Elementary School students, the Cumberland School Committee voted at the meeting held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, to approve the Model 1 Redistricting plan. A list of affected streets can be seen here, Updated Model 1 Street List. It is during times like this that we are so fortunate that Cumberland has great schools in every district and at every level. We are continuously working hard to make a smooth transition for all.
2024-2025 Kindergarten / 1st Grade Registration
The online student registration portal is now open for all kindergarten, first grade, and any new students entering the Cumberland School Department for the 2024-2025 school year.
Additional information can be found here – 2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration
2024-2025 School Calendar
I know that a lot of families are looking for the 2024-2025 School Calendar to plan for vacations and childcare for the coming year. We hope to have the calendar approved for the upcoming year on March 28th. Please watch the Cumberland School District’s website for the most up-to-date information.
School Construction Update
We have school construction projects underway at the CHS Wellness Center, CHS Transitional Building, North Cumberland Middle School, Joseph L. McCourt Middle School, Community, and Ashton Elementary Schools, with behind-the-scenes work happening for B.F. Norton Elementary School. As we hit milestones with these projects, we will be sure to share updates and visuals. Getting to see the transitions from start to finish has been remarkable and we sincerely thank everyone for their continued patience and support.
Sincerely,
Philip D. Thornton, Ed.D.
