Superintendent’s Communication  – Update on Bus Fleet Area Flooding and School Status 12/19/23

Superintendent’s Communication  – Update on Bus Fleet Area Flooding and School Status 12/19/23

Good afternoon,

I wanted to provide everyone with an important update regarding the current flooding situation at the school bus yard.

We have been closely monitoring the situation throughout the day, unfortunately, the water in the area of the bus yard is still upwards of three feet deep with a large amount of floating debris. The bus fleet however is dry.

We understand the importance of timely information for planning purposes however we will not be able to make a decision this evening on school opening tomorrow. The area will be assessed in the morning and a decision to open schools will be made at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Sincerely,

Philip D. Thornton, Ed.D.

Community School Update – October 12, 2023 *Open*

Good Morning,

We are communicating this morning as a follow-up to last night’s message from Principal Vaughn regarding the opening of school today.

As an added precaution Fire Chief Anderson and a Hazmat Team came in to perform an air quantity check this morning and the building is safe to open.

The school will be open as usual today.

Sincerely,

Philip D. Thornton, Ed.D.
